Vancouver, British Columbia · Est. venture lab & holding company

We build AI ventures the way capital used to be built: to last, and to be owned.

J.C. Adam & Gold Capital Inc. is an ethical AI venture lab. We identify real problems, build working systems, protect the intellectual property behind them, and take each venture to market on its own merits. Alongside the lab, we develop original publications, a growing patent portfolio, and long-hold real assets.

The Model

A build-and-exit portfolio, not a pitch deck.

Most AI companies raise first and figure it out later. We invert the order. Every venture in our portfolio begins as a working system solving a verified problem, with its intellectual property secured before it is ever shown. Only then does it move to market.

Stage 01

Identify

We source venture theses from real operating experience: legal services, compliance, marketing intelligence, education, and data infrastructure. Each thesis must name a problem someone already pays to have.

Stage 02

Build

We write the core systems in-house and deploy through a dedicated development team. Nothing in the portfolio is vaporware; ventures ship as working software before they carry a valuation.

Stage 03

Protect & Monetize

Provisional patent filings precede every demonstration. Data assets, method families, and trade secrets are documented and defended, then converted into revenue or licensing value.

Stage 04

Exit

Ventures are built to be separable: clean codebases, documented IP, transferable data assets. Each one is positioned for acquisition, licensing, or independent operation.

The Portfolio Ledger

Ventures on the books.

The lab operates a numbered portfolio. Flagship ventures are public; ventures in development remain confidential until their intellectual property is filed and their market position is secured.

What We Do

Four practices, one balance sheet.

The firm is structured as a holding company with four active practices. Each generates its own value; together they compound.

Practice 01

AI Venture Development

The core of the lab. We design, build, and operate AI ventures end to end, from architecture and data strategy through deployment and go-to-market.

  • Full-stack venture builds, shipped as working software
  • Proprietary data assets as durable moats
  • Build-exit discipline on every venture

Practice 02

IP Development & Licensing

A structured intellectual property program: patent drafting, provisional filings, trade secret governance, and method families developed for licensing and sale.

  • Growing portfolio of drafted and filed patents
  • Filing-before-demonstration discipline, without exception
  • IP packaged for acquisition or standalone licensing

Practice 03

Publications & Research

Original writing on AI ethics, cognition, and governance, including a forthcoming full-length book, alongside teaching at two British Columbia institutions in marketing, research, and applied AI.

  • Forthcoming nonfiction book on AI ethics and governance
  • University teaching in marketing and applied AI
  • Executive masterclasses on ethical AI adoption

Practice 04

Real Assets

Long-hold real estate development on British Columbia's Sea-to-Sky corridor, managed owner-direct from structural engineering through finish, applying the same rigor as the software portfolio.

  • Luxury custom residential development, owner-built
  • Direct procurement and trade management
  • Real assets balancing the venture portfolio

Principles

Why "ethical" is in the description.

We believe the next decade of AI will be shaped by whoever builds it, and that concentration of that power in a handful of companies is a risk in itself. The lab exists as a counterweight: commercially serious, independently owned, and governed by principles that are written down and enforced.

Dignity before automation

Our systems are designed to inform, verify, and extend human judgment, never to quietly replace it. Where a system touches people's rights, livelihoods, or education, a human stays accountable.

Provenance is non-negotiable

Every data asset we build carries its provenance. We do not train on what we do not have the right to use, and we do not sell what we cannot trace.

Guardrails are architecture

Ethics in our ventures is not a policy page; it is built into the system design as non-negotiable constraints, reviewed before any capability ships.

Leadership

Thirty years of building real systems.

Office of the Founder

Founder & Chief Executive

Operator, educator, and author. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

JCADAMGOLD.COM

The firm is led by a founder with more than thirty years of experience building and governing operating businesses: hospitality and franchising, technology and intellectual property advisory at a Big Four firm, venture founding and funding, early digital publishing, and applied AI research.

That range is the point. The lab's venture theses come from operating experience rather than trend reports, and its standards for what counts as "working" were set in industries where systems fail visibly and immediately.

Alongside the lab, the founder teaches marketing, research, and applied AI at two British Columbia post-secondary institutions, and is completing a full-length book on AI ethics, cognition, and governance.
